A very rare pair of Federal carved fire bellows, attributed to Samuel McIntire, Salem circa 1800. These carved mahogany bellows, which feature a detailed carved basket of fruit with characteristic star punch, originally belonged to American patriot John Winship (1754-1822) who fought the British at the Battle of Lexington, prior to moving to Salem. The bellows are illustrated in "American Antiques from the Israel Sack Collection", Vol. IV, figure P3844, page 1037. Length 21 1/2 Width 9".

An important American political commemorative plaque or tray, circa 1855. This silver plated tray commemorates The Compromise of 1850. The tray which has hand chased patriotic emblems, is cast at center with an engraving of the signing of the declaration of independence set within a copy of the document. This is centered by the bust of George Washington at top and Senators Henry Clay and Daniel Webster at the right and left. Below is a depiction of a hand tracing Clay's achievements on a scroll set upon a rock inscribe "Constitution". This image is titled above, "The Eloquent Defender Of National Rights and National Independence".Clay and Webster worked together on this bill during 1850. The tray is comprised of several memorial coins engraved by Charles Cushing Wright of New York. The likeness of Clay is found with the image of his hand above the scroll, on a single bronze commemorative coin stuck in 1852. The image at center of congress was engraved by S. H. Black in 1859 and is a composite from an earlier Wright engraving. 22 7/8 x 28 3/8”

A magnificent Georgian Rococo giltwood mirror, mid 18th Century. The shaped rectangular mirror glass is framed with elaborately carved foliate garlands and reverse scrolled feet. The crest is surmounted with a blossom of flowers framed by carved scrolls and foliate devices. The giltwood frame retains it's original gilding with a wonderful mellow old surface. (Minor losses) 74 x 36"

Oil on wood panel by Susanna Paine, New England (1792-1862) Portrait of The Battey Family, Providence, Rhode Island, 1830. A portrait depicting Mr. Sheldon Battey, his wife Eliza and their son Thomas at about the age of six. Mr. Sheldon Battey (1793-1842), young Thomas Sheldon Battey (born August 21, 1824), Mrs. Eliza Battey (1783-1864) The Batteys are seated in Classical settee with rolled arms and turned crest, beneath a gilt gesso picture frame and a crimson drapery. Susanna Paine, an extraordinary woman and itinerant portrait painter, was born in Rehoboth Massachusetts, June 9, 1792. Her work is prolific as she moved between, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island throughout her lifetime and career. Here iconic works provide a valued image of American life in the first half of the Nineteenth century. An impressive pair of Queen Anne swirl base brass candlestick, circa 1750-60. This unusually large pair of candlesticks have fine swirl bases with great old color. The shafts have reverse urn turnings with swirl cut decorations and matching bobèches. The pair are impressive not only for their size but for the fact that they survive in such fine condition. Height 9 1/8".

A very fine Hepplewhite gilt and inlaid looking glass, New York City, circa 1795. The urn finial with blossoms and wheat stalks is framed by a molded and carved swan's neck pediment, terminating in floral rosettes. The mahogany veneered pediment is inlaid with an oval panel with stylized conch shell above line inlaid panels. The original mirror glass is framed by gilt moldings and a line inlaid panel all surmounted by gilt carved floral drops. The mirror base is embellished with a heavily scrolled panel and ears. 48 x 20"

A diminutive Federal giltwood mirror bearing the label of Edward Lothrop, Boston, Mass, circa 1820. Having an overhanging cornice with ball decorations above rope moldings and an upper panel depicting two figures on a path with a maple leaf and blossom border. 14 1/2 x 21 1/2"

A Monumental Classical Gilt Wood Girandole Mirror, circa 1820. This exceptionally large scale girandole mirror features a full bodied carved American eagle on a plinth mounted with an ebonized lion face. The richly carved foliate ears and lower drop, frame the original convex looking glass. The four gilt scrolled candelabrums support cut crystal candle holders above crystal bobeche with drop prisms. 57 x 46"

A very fine pair of Chippendale punch work and bright cut decorated brass and wrought iron andirons, attributed to Daniel King, Philadelphia, circa 1780. This handsome pair of andirons feature turned lemon tops above a tapered column with raised spiral vine decoration. The base plinths are decorated with floral garlands and borders. Each rest upon double spur scrolled legs terminating in bold ball and claw feet. Height 26 3/8".

The upper panel is reverse painted Classical image of a woman seated on a chaise engaging a child holding a book, all framed by red and gilded draperies.
